About Steph LJ

Steph LJ

I was born in Augusta, Georgia, and have lived all over the country, from South and North Carolina, to Florida and Michigan, Kansas and Texas. But I always considered Augusta my hometown. My family and I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2000, and we've loved raising our daughters here.

I've been married to Dave, my lovey hubby, since 2000, and we have a beautiful marriage. It's sustained us through some very difficult times. Our youngest daughter, Brecken, was born in 2000 and had cystic fibrosis. She died in 2006, and none of us could have survived that tragic loss without each other. Along with our oldest daughter, Lindsey, we form a triad and love and depend on each other.

We love exotic foods, and always want to taste the local delicacies when we travel, which we also love to do! I'll eat anything except flavored potato chips. They are an abomination and shouldn't be allowed to exist. When we came back from a trip to Jamaica I was telling a friend about how we tried ackee, a Jamaican favorite. His reaction was disgust, he said, "You'll eat something called ackee? But not a bar-b-que potato chip?" Exactly!

In August of 2012 I had an idea for a story, and one night as we were driving into Charlotte for dinner I told my husband about it. When we got there he told me he loved the idea, and he wanted to know more. I immediately started writing my thoughts down, and began organizing the story. It became Planted, and in the summer of 2013 I finished the first draft.

It's exhilarating and magical to read a story you invented yourself, and I hope that one day soon I can have Planted finished and published. I hope others enjoy the story of Lily and Luke also.

My pen name: I am not normal. I am not usual. When I noticed authors using initials and their last names I like the smidge of anonymity that provides. But I don't want to be just like everyone else! So I decided to shorten my name to Steph, which is what most people end up calling me anyway, and using my last two initials! Louis CK did it, and I like it too!

Thanks for dropping by!

edit: going back and reading this feels so strange. i was so positive and upbeat a few years ago, but now feel careworn.
